FAQs

Where is the conference being held?

The conference will be held across four venues in the central Wellington suburb of Te Aro:

  • Bedlam & Squalor – Level 1/18 Garrett Street: The main proceedings of the conference will be held at Bedlam & Squalor. This venue is accessible only via a flight of stairs.
  • Thistle Hall – 293 Cuba Street: The Keynote events on Saturday 26 October and Sunday 27 October will be held at Thistle Hall. This venue is accessible via stairs and a lift to the 1st floor.
  • Wellington Trades Hall – 126 Vivian Street: One session on each afternoon will be held at Trades Hall, in parallel with a session at Bedlam & Squalor. The launch of The Commonweal VI on Saturday evening will also be held at Wellington Trades Hall. All proceedings here will be held on the ground floor.
  • 13 Garrett Street – The concert on Sunday evening will be held at 13 Garrett Street. This venue is accessible only via a flight of stairs.

All these venues are within a short walking distance of each other and close to numerous cafes, restaurants, and other amenities.

When will the conference start and finish?

The conference will start at 12:00pm Saturday 26 October with sessions at Bedlam & Squalor. The Keynote event will begin at 6:15pm. The day will conclude with the launch of The Commonweal VI at 8:30pm.

On Sunday, the day will begin at 11:00am with a 1913 Great Strike walking tour beginning and ending at Bedlam & Squalor, followed by sessions at Bedlam & Squalor and Wellington Trades Hall. The Keynote event will begin at 6:45pm. The day will conclude with the concert from 9:00pm.

It is a busy schedule but attendees are free to take a break from sessions if they wish to.

The final schedule will be available closer to the time of the conference. Conference content is teased on Wellington Socialist Society social media channels at the moment.

Is the conference open to the public, i.e. to non-members of the New Zealand Federation of Socialist Societies?

Yes, the main proceedings of the conference are open to the public. However, you must register here and pay the $30.00 registration fee if you wish to attend.

The Keynote events are free, public events open to anyone, whether they have registered for the rest of the conference or not.

What will be provided in terms of food and refreshments?

An afternoon tea will be provided on both days for attendees. All other meals and refreshments will be self-catered.
