Mā Pango Mā Whero Ka Oti Te Mahi – Public Discussion with Nīkau Wi Neera

Mā Pango Mā Whero Ka Oti Te Mahi – Public Discussion with Nīkau Wi Neera

“Mā pango mā whero ka oti te mahi” – Whakataukī
(through the red and the black the work will be done)
“You cannot carry out fundamental change without a certain amount of madness. In this case, it comes from nonconformity, the courage to turn your back on the old formulas, the courage to invent the future. Besides, it took the madmen of yesterday for us to be able to act with extreme clarity today. I want to be one of those madmen.”
― Thomas Sankara
Join us for an evening with councillor Nikau Wi Neera (Ngāti Toarangatira and Kāi Tahu) as we delve into the fascinating world of historical indigenous socialist movements, constitutional transformation, and leftism in local government. As an esteemed speaker and tangata whenua, Nīkau will share his insights on how indigenous peoples have engaged with socialism throughout history, and how constitutional reform can create opportunities for greater political and economic equality and justice.
We will also explore the potential for left-wing politics to positively impact local government, and how we can work towards creating more inclusive and representative communities.
