International Women’s Day: Declaring a Nitrate Emergency

International Women’s Day: Declaring a Nitrate Emergency

Vicky Southworth was a regional councillor at Environment Canterbury for 6 years (2019 to 2022). Prior to this she gained a Master of Water Resource Management from the University of Canterbury and worked as an engineering geologist with a focus on contaminated sites.

Vicky will talk about the Nitrate Emergency declaration – what the issue is, why it’s become an emergency (or crisis or whatever other label the issue needs to get action!), and what to do about it.

As the date is close to International Women’s Day she’ll happily reflect on her perspective and experience of being a local government councillor if asked. The election in 2019 brought a fully elected council of equal numbers of men and women. In 2022 that changed to 3 women and 13 men.

As ever, this event is free to attend and open to the public – come on down!
