Show Debate: ‘The CSS should be involved in electoral politics…’

Show Debate: ‘The CSS should be involved in electoral politics…’

It’s a question that comes up at least once per year: should the Canterbury Socialist Society enter into a more ‘formal’ politics at the levels of local and central government? Should it establish a new party? Seek to influence an existing one? Or should it support independent candidates on a case by case basis?

On the other hand, is it the case that electoralism is bourgeois beyond repair? Or maybe the CSS just has other work to do? What is to be done indeed!

Join the CSS for a very special first event of 2026 as two teams of three hash out the arguments for and against some kind of electoral campaign, with you, the audience deciding the winning team (think Ready, Steady, Cook!).

Arguing for:

Thomas Roud, Gregory Byrnes, Quentin Findlay;

Arguing against:

Sionainn Byrnes, Samuel Hope, Paul Hopkinson.

As ever, this event is free and open to all to attend – bring your people!
