Housing has been a major topic of discussion in and beyond the media in recent months, from the Government’s Move On Orders, to the eviction of dozens of homeless people from Ōtautahi’s red zone (while plans to rebuild on red zoned land progress in the background), to a massive over supply of Central City units earmarked for short term occupation via the likes of Airbnb, to the preventable deaths of homeless people from exposure. Many people are lucky enough to experience only the outer edges of the housing crisis (lack of stock, poorly maintained stock), but others are not so lucky. Please join the Canterbury Socialist Society in welcoming a panel of speakers from across Ōtautahi’s homeless and housing advocacy communities as well as the residential property development sector as they share their perspectives on the issues and possible ways forward.
In particular, we look forward to welcoming Moko Reuben, who recently gave a deputation to the Christchurch City Council of behalf of those homeless people living in the red zone. We ask that CSS members make every effort to attend this event in recognition of his presence.
